What makes people happy?
The answer to this question will vary from person to person, but I believe there are certain assumptions that are common to all people when it comes to the question, "What are the foundations that create happiness?"
People are not born with a destiny. Each person discovers their "inner light" through the combination of their individual qualities, social environment, and experiences.
We cannot be happy without mutual aid and cooperation, a social environment that encompasses and controls the range of people's emotions and senses.
Happiness and desire
If your desires are fulfilled, you will certainly be happy.
Starting with physiological needs, our desires grow and grow, including safety, love, belonging, recognition, and self-actualization. However, if the core of these desires is self-centered, our happiness decreases.
A society with low happiness is an individualized society. It is a society where people are not helped by others and are responsible for themselves. A society where people make mistakes and cannot recover is scary and makes people anxious.
Happiness is living in a society of "others," receiving recognition, love, and belonging from those others, and becoming someone else yourself.
We have a social environment where we can be forgiven and trusted even if we commit foolish and silly acts, and where we can rebuild relationships of trust. We have a social system where we can try again even if we fail.
This is the foundational premise that creates human happiness.
A: That assumption doesn't exist in today's society.
B: In the past, there was still a society where people got along well with their neighbors and a family-like system like lifetime employment.
A: I don't need all that hassle.
B: Then why don't we work together to create a new social environment that suits the current situation?
A: That kind of social planning is out of hand.
B: But is it okay to just leave it to someone else and complain? Shouldn't we take on some responsibility and think about it, even if it's a small thing?
A: Even if a new environment is created, there's no way to know if it will work.
B: It's true that no matter how much you make something, you don't know whether it will lead to "happiness" at that moment.
A: Then there's no point in making it.
B: Still, we have no choice but to keep making it.
Person A and Person B live in the same era, but their thoughts are polar opposites. Although their lifestyles, family environments, and qualities are different, they live under almost the same conditions. What causes such differences? Person A lives for himself, while Person B lives for someone else. The difference is that they live for the sake of others, that is, society. Nevertheless, Person A's thoughts are also related to others, that is, society, and the environment.
The foundation that creates happiness is a social environment where mutual assistance can be practiced.
Having others with whom you can compete and who recognize you.
If we can see failure as an opportunity to grow together
The next challenge and dignity are born, and happiness matures.
Failure is the mother of success. Growth is more important than success.
Growth is the "happiness" of accepting and cherishing the society of others.
